Positive People Network, Inc. Honors The Second Annual Southern HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
On August 20, 2020 Positive People Network, Inc. commemorates the 2nd annual Southern HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (SHAAD) launched by the Southern AIDS Coalition — a non-partisan coalition of government, community, and business leaders working alongside thousands of people living with HIV and their allies to end the HIV epidemic in the South. SHAAD is a day set aside for individuals all over the nation to join a movement to raise awareness, erase HIV/AIDS-related stigma and discrimination, and to advocate for new and necessary resources and solutions to stem the tide of HIV/AIDS in the South.
Centers for Disease Control Prevention states that more than 511,400 people are living with HIV in the South. People living with HIV in the South are faced with stigma and discrimination that often results in a lack of access to high-quality health care and essential support services. This reality requires everyone as a nation to collectively develop solutions to reduce these disparities and combat this HIV/AIDS epidemic occurring in the South.
"There Is Life After Diagnosis " our southern states specifically with the highest transmission rates should be the states with the least amount of new transmissions. That’s not the case and we are committed to doing better in being a social organization for our community.
Positive People Network will commemorate SHAAD by launching of PPN Southern Women Mutual Aide Fund. This mutual aide fund campaign will be shared from our organization social media and network listserv. We hope to shine a little light on the women in our community and we are proud to take part with all the other government, community, and business leaders that support the various networks of people living with HIV in stating that # There is Life after Diagnosis, Live it!
